Artist Statement

Dance means everything to me. Dance is my way of communication, its how I speak. Without it, I wouldn't be me. I have been blessed to have such an amazing art form guide in life, to where I want to offer the same to others. I want to create performing arts schools around the world, to give individuals the opportunity to find their passion.

Mikayla McGhee

The Groovin Mama

Mikayla McGhee, from Chicago, IL, is a senior at California State University, Sacramento, in the process of bachelor’s degree studies in dance. Mikayla has studied jazz, modern, lyrical, ballet and hip hop over the course of her dance career at Natomas Charter School of Performing and Fine Arts Academy, as well as Monterey Trail High School. She also has training in theatre and music, playing the drums and the viola. She has danced with the Impulse Dance Company, the RTB Movement hip hop crew and the Hornet Girlz, she also was a student director with the Apprentice Impulse Dance Company. Throughout her dance career, she has created three dance works and has performed with choreographer Bernard Brown. Overall, when Mikayla isn't dancing she is a wife and a mother.
